Medicare Rebate

Connect Psychology Pscyhologists are required to hold Medicare provider numbers, enabling you to claim a Medicare rebate for your counselling consultations and some group sessions.

To claim these rebates, you must have a referral, in the form of a Mental Health Care Plan, from your GP, psychiatrist or paediatrician. Eligible people can receive:

  • *A Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) is a government subsidy of $96.65 for psychology sessions (up to 10 sessions per calendar year). Click here to find out more about how to access a Mental Health Care Plan, and all other relevant details.

  • A mental health care plan lets you claim up to 10 individual and 10 group sessions with a mental health professional each calendar year.

  • Clients with a Mental Health Care Plan receive the same rebates for online counselling as for face-to-face counselling.

  • To claim these rebates, you must have a referral and Mental Heal Care Plan prior to your first appointment, from your GP, psychiatrist, or paediatrician. Those eligible can receive:

10 individual counselling sessions in a calendar year. Your referring doctor MUST assess your progress after the first 6 sessions in order to access the following 4 sessions.

*Please note: Medicare doesn’t cover you while you’re overseas, please also check with your Private Health provider if applicable

The current Australian Psychological Society (APS) and Australian Association of Psychologists Inc (AAPi) recommended service fee for psychological services is $267 for a standard 46-60 minute session.

Although, to best meet the needs of our demographic and work in best practice, Connect Psychology Australia offers psychological services at reduced rates.

The Process: Once you’ve got your MHCP you’re ready to book your first session. You can attach your MHCP referral to your booking form or email into hello@connectpsychology.au at the time of your booking. Your psychologist will gather any missing details required for Medicare rebating details prior to payment. After payment for the session is complete, we provide you with an invoice.

NDIS

Connect Psychology Australia supports NDIS psychology for both Plan Managed and Self Managed participants. We are here to help make this process as easy as possible.

The NDIS covers Allied Health Therapeutic Support under the NDIS Improved Daily Living Category.

This category is specifically designed to improve an NDIS participant’s capacity building, to achieve their goals of living more independently. These include services and therapy that help people improve their day-to-day lives, build skills, increase muscle tone, function and mobility, help with speech, diet and psychological support.

NDIS within the Improved Daily Living category will help finance an initial assessment for clients and ongoing treatments as required. The support each client receives can look quite different, as it will be individualised to their needs.

The process: Once you’ve confirmed that your NDIS Plan covers psychology sessions, you’re ready to book your first session. After payment for the session is complete, we provide you with an invoice. Although some plans may differ in their inclusions and processes, typically these invoices will be forwarded to you, for you to send on to NDIS for reimbursement

Private Health Insurance

Covered with private insurance? You may be able to claim via private insurance - simply check with your provider.

Many private health funds including Bupa and Medibank Private offer psychology rebates in their policy extras. Contact your private health insurance provider or check your policy details to find out whether you’re covered for mental health services.

The Process: Once you’ve confirmed that your health insurance policy covers psychology sessions, you’re ready to book your first session. After payment for the session is complete, we provide you with an invoice. Although each private health insurer will have their own established process for reimbursement, typically these invoices will be forwarded on to you to then provide to your private health insurance provider for reimbursement.
